MAPA-HUSAY: A Roadmap to Communication Skills Upgrade
The roadmap above illustrates the thing I needed to do to be an aspiring professional media practitioner. The truck carrying the microphone signifies one of my lapsed J-skills which I needed to focus on and that is speaking which is the main highlight of the roadmap. A successful communicator should have excellent speaking skills as a part of his arsenal.
The map is divided into 4 checkpoints. The first checkpoint is about getting out of the basics; a transition from basic knowledge to learning the advanced. If you want to improve, it is important to get out of the shell. Don’t settle for mediocrity. Every single day is an opportunity to learn something new so I won’t waste it. Even small learnings can have a huge impact.
The second checkpoint is the accomplishing all the things I have to do in the Broadcasting course by teaching myself. Of course, I don’t want to depend purely on the professor. I need to learn additional things on my own. These include training my tongue in the English language by communicating with my friends in English. In addition, I have online friends internationally. Whenever we have voice chats via Discord, they can be my training tool in perfecting the English language. In this training phase, I can point out all my common mistakes. It will be a long checkpoint but I know it will be worth it at the end.
After learning the course, I am hopeful that I won’t be forgetting all of the things I’ve learned. Courses on my program are not wear and tear materials. I will apply them throughout my life especially the writing and speaking part. Of course, I will still be having minor lapses in the speaking but experience is the best teacher and practice still lives on there.
The last checkpoint contains what I’ve wanted to achieve; to be a confident speaker. In that phase, I can now speak in straight English as well as eliminating my stuttering when it comes to adlibs. An aspiring media practitioner wants to be confident at all times and I hope I can further develop that with no hesitations. At that point, I am at the professional level and be an outstanding media practitioner. I hope that I can follow these checkpoints. With the proper mindset, decision-making and responsibility, there is no impossible.
