COMM-FIDENCE THROUGH STRUGGLE
When it comes to communication, Mark Isaiah Hora doesn’t want to leave the field.
The field has always been diverse. “You can be in the marketing department, you can work with the communication department, you can work with the creative communication and so” he says. The field taught him to deal with different types of people. With versatility, he had no regrets. However, with that success of happiness and contentment, of course, there is no easy route.
Who would’ve thought that a man who was always sweating during public speaking will become a successful TV host of Regional News Group Luzon in the future? Before that, Mark Hora was a clueless communication student on what path he will pursue. Confident and intelligent, yet confused.
“I worked several jobs before I became a TV host probably around 5 jobs” he says. “In college, I worked as an ESL tutor and I worked for about a year in the same position up until I was able to land a better position with the same company when I was offered to be a marketing officer” he added.
But wait, there’s more. He then worked as a real estate and a call center agent. The man is just too diverse just like his field. Even though well-paid, rejections, hardships and struggles come. He failed as a flight attendant in back in 2016. The reason? A breakout. After months of application, equipped with confidence with a sudden burst of acne, he wasn’t accepted.
He then recalled a time where he became a father while finishing college. It was a turning point in his life that pushed him to be more responsible, to work harder and to more be mature. He added those failed attempts made him understand, why things happen that way. Everything happens for a reason. With those problems, realizations may come as well as lessons, learnings and blessings.
“If I had not gone through those hardships, I wouldn’t realize my dream job.” It re-routed Mark to reach a different goal by pursuing a different path and that was reporting news and hosting in TV and events.
College taught him to be tough. His professor once said, “Life after college will be even more difficult so you have to toughen yourself up” One should accept his own mistakes and failures and make it as a lesson. One doesn’t need to run away from these; accept and learn from it. “When you got to work and fail and you fail badly, you could ruin your reputation, you could lose your job.”
Everything will be hard. Life is not an easy game to play. For Mark, life doesn’t give what we want because there is something destined. One must accept that things happen the way it was. With his success in the field, there are still improvements in his skills that needed to be done such as his news writing in Filipino. It shows that life is not easy, everyone can’t be perfect even he did attain the success that he always wanted to have.
Mark left this final tip and final words as I finished listening to his experiences on life and communication. “Be confident, not arrogant” as he utters with a smile on his face in front of the camera.
